About This Product
This petroleum paraffin wax (CAS 8002-74-2) is a food grade whose properties are tested by the methods of IS 4654 and IS 1448. It is designated 62 °C: its specification allows a cooling-curve melting point of 45.0–75.0 °C (IS 4654 Annexure A), and the latest certificate of analysis reads 62.4 °C. Oil content is held to 0.50% by mass or less, Lovibond colour to 1.0 Y in an 18-inch cell, and the wax must pass the acid discolouration test.
Its documents name food packaging, cosmetics and medicinal products as the intended fields. In practice that covers wax coatings for paper and board that touch food, bases for creams, balms and lip products, and wax components of pharmaceutical preparations, where tight limits on ash (0.03% max), acidity and odour are wanted.
Before ordering, ask for the lot certificate, the safety data sheet and details of the physical form and packaging on offer. The food-grade description reflects the tested properties of this grade only: each buyer must confirm that the wax meets the food-contact, cosmetic or pharmacopoeial rules for their own product and market. UV absorbance is not reported on the current certificate, so buyers who need it should ask for it to be tested.
