Bitumen 60/70: What to Include in a Supply Enquiry – BG Petro Chemicals news and insights

A useful bitumen enquiry starts with the project's required specification. The grade name is important, but it should sit alongside the test limits, methods and acceptance requirements that the buyer or project authority uses.

    Confirm the grade and specification

Bitumen 60/70 Penetration Grade is a paving binder. Its grade name refers to a penetration range measured under stated test conditions. The catalogue specification also includes softening point, ductility, flash point, loss on heating and other properties.

Send the complete required specification rather than only the words "60/70 bitumen". Where the project cites a standard or a particular test method, include that reference and edition. Do not assume that a grade accepted on one project will automatically satisfy another project's requirements.

Align the documents with the offered material

Request the available specification, safety data sheet and batch-analysis information for the producer and material under consideration. Compare the test methods and units with the enquiry: penetration and softening point are different properties, and both need to be read in the context of the full specification.

If sampling, independent inspection or a particular acceptance procedure is required, raise it before commercial terms are settled. The parties can then confirm what is available and how it fits the proposed supply.

    Plan receiving and packing together

The BG Petro Chemicals catalogue lists bulk, drums and ISO tanks among the possible formats for this product. The actual arrangement must be confirmed for the offer. Include the receiving site's facilities, preferred format, shipment quantity, destination and timing so that the proposed route can be reviewed.

Bitumen handling should follow the applicable product safety information and the site's own procedures. This enquiry checklist is for preparing a supply brief; it does not set storage or operating temperatures.
