    About This Product

Microcrystalline wax 160S is defined by the limits printed on its certificate of analysis. Melting point by ASTM D-127 must fall within 66–75 °C, and oil content by ASTM D-721 may not exceed 10 wt%. ASTM D-1500 colour is capped at 2.5, the specific gravity range is 0.84–0.87 when measured at 15/4 °C by ASTM D-1298, and a flash point (ASTM D-92) of 200 °C or higher is required. Neither kinematic viscosity by ASTM D-445 nor penetration by ASTM D-1321 has a set limit; each batch certificate records the measured figure instead.

The safety data sheet for this family of waxes describes the material as a petroleum hydrocarbon mixture made up of highly isomeric hydrocarbons. It stays solid at room temperature, softens as it warms, flows more readily once past its softening point and is normally put to use in molten form. Microcrystalline wax goes into candle blends to lend flexibility and better adhesion, and finds further use in adhesive and laminating work, tyre and other rubber compounds, cosmetics and creams, casting and protection against corrosion.

Buyers who rely on a particular penetration or viscosity should agree figures before ordering, since the 160S specification leaves both open. Before supply, confirm the current specification and obtain both the safety data sheet and the delivered batch's certificate of analysis. The two certificates attached to this page differ in several limits, so state which one an order is to follow; test the wax in the finished formulation before committing to volume.
