About This Product

Suspension PVC resin (polyvinyl chloride, CAS 9002-86-2) is offered as a white powder graded under the Chinese SG system, from SG1 to SG8. The grade number runs opposite to molecular weight: SG1 has the highest K value and SG8 the lowest.

K value governs how a resin processes and what it is suited to. At the high end, long polymer chains bring strength and toughness but also a high melt viscosity, so these grades take more plasticiser and suit soft products with demanding performance. At the low end, the resin flows readily, which suits rigid injection moulding and thin-walled bottles, where the melt has to fill the mould before it starts to degrade. SG5, in the middle of the range, is the workhorse grade for most pipe, profile and rigid sheet.

Declared uses by grade are as follows. SG1 and SG2: insulating material for electroplating, membranes and general soft products. SG3: shielded wire and cable, agricultural film and all-plastic sandals. SG4: industrial and agricultural film, flexible tube and high-strength tube. SG5: transparent products, rigid tube, PVC pipe, profile, conduit, plate and heat-shrink film. SG6: transparent sheet, hardboard, welding rod and fibre. SG7: bottles, transparent material and rigid injection-moulded tube. SG8: bottles, sheet, calendering, rigid injection moulding, moulded pipe, fittings and foam board.

The resin comes from major producers in China, among them Ordos, Zhongtai, Tianye, Beiyuan, Junzheng, Sanlian, Dagu, Cangzhou Chemical, Sanyou, Sinopec, Xinfa, Hanwha, Ningbo Formosa, Shanghai Chlor-alkali, Guangxi Huayi and Ningxia Younglight. It is packed in 25 kg bags or jumbo bags. Check the producer and grade against your purchasing specification.
