    Petroleum & Synthetic Waxes

Slack Wax (Congealing Point 60–67 °C)

    About This Product

This petroleum slack wax is specified by congealing point rather than melting point: 60–67 °C under ASTM D938, with a result of 62.6 °C on the batch certificate. Oil in wax must stay below 13% by weight (that batch measured 4.25%), and colour is limited to 0.5 on the ASTM D1500 scale. Kinematic viscosity at 100 °C runs from 6.0 to 9.0 mm²/s, and the flash point is 200 °C or higher.

Slack wax is the crude wax separated from lubricating oil during dewaxing. A common outlet is de-oiling into scale and paraffin waxes; without further refining, it is used in emulsions for sizing particleboard and fibreboard, in moisture-resistant coatings for corrugated board, in candle and firelighter blends and in rubber compounding.

Cone penetration and density carry no limit; the certificate reports 22 (0.1 mm) by ASTM D937 and 0.8385 g/mL at 15 °C, so buyers with hardness or density requirements should agree limits in advance. Confirm the safety data sheet, physical form, packaging and lot certificate before supply, and trial the wax in the intended process.
