    About This Product

Base Oil 100N-MVI is aimed squarely at metalworking fluid production. Soluble cutting oil concentrates have to carry emulsifiers, corrosion inhibitors and coupling agents as one stable package that disperses into a fine emulsion as soon as water is added, and the better the base oil's solvency, the easier that is to achieve. Straight cutting and grinding oils loaded with sulphurised fats and other extreme-pressure chemistry gain the same advantage. The grade is also used as a process oil and carrier in chemical manufacture, and as the base for slideway oils, general machine oils and light gear oils, applications in which solvency and price outweigh the need for a high viscosity index.

The reason an MVI stock dissolves additives so well lies in how it is refined. Producers of medium viscosity index oils typically apply milder extraction, or start from a crude with a more naphthenic profile. Either route leaves a larger proportion of naphthenic and aromatic ring molecules, the same species that severe extraction would remove to raise viscosity index. The result is a stock that accepts and retains polar additives, fats and emulsifiers more easily, at the cost of a little temperature stability.

Viscosity index is specified at min 80, short of the HVI level, so viscosity falls somewhat faster as the oil warms; in machinery running at a stable workshop temperature that has little practical effect. At 20.0 – 24.0 cSt at 40 °C the grade is marginally heavier than the 100N-HVI, but its pour point (max -6 °C) and open cup flash point (min 177 °C) are the same. Colour may reach ASTM 2.0, a shade darker, which is typical where more ring compounds are retained. Acidity is held at max 0.05 mg KOH/g, and the specification does not include a carbon residue limit.

Engine oils and multigrade hydraulic oils belong on the HVI series, chiefly the 100N-HVI and 150N-HVI. Where a heavier stock with similar solvency is needed for gear oils or greases, the 650N-MVI is the heavy grade of the same viscosity index class, and blending the two gives access to intermediate viscosities.

The oil originates in Pakistan, and volumes are allocated from a lube base oil production of 16,500 MT per month that all grades share. BG Petro Chemicals can supply bulk cargoes, ISO tanks, flexi bags, IBC tanks or drums, and will make up custom packaging on request. A certificate of analysis matches each consignment, and the TDS and SDS are available on request.
