    About This Product

Base Oil 650N-MVI is meant for the heavy end of industrial lubrication: cement plants, mines, mills and other heavy industrial sites where machines run continuously at high, stable temperatures and never see the swings an engine does. In that setting, the ability to dissolve additives at high viscosity is worth more than a high viscosity index. Enclosed gearbox oils often contain large doses of sulphur-phosphorus extreme-pressure additives, and steam cylinder oils may include fatty oil compounding. Because this stock has more naphthenic and aromatic character than a highly paraffinic oil, it holds such ingredients in solution and is less prone to haze or sediment at high additive treat rates. Grease makers benefit too: the soap thickener disperses and swells more readily, allowing the batch to reach the required consistency with a lower thickener content.

The specification covers kinematic viscosity of 10.6 – 11.6 cSt at 100 °C, viscosity index min 80, open cup flash point min 227 °C and pour point max -3 °C. Colour is permitted up to ASTM 4.0, darker than the heavy HVI grades; this is characteristic of a heavy cut extracted less severely and seldom matters in gear oils, cylinder oils and greases, which are not judged on looks. Acidity must not exceed 0.05 mg KOH/g, and there is no carbon residue requirement.

Buyers sometimes ask why the grade is numbered 650 when its viscosity at 100 °C is almost identical to that of the 500N-HVI. Neutral grade numbers derive from an older viscosity scale based on a lower test temperature. There, an oil with a lower viscosity index is noticeably thicker than an HVI oil of the same hot viscosity, so the higher number reflects viscosity index as much as weight.

In the medium viscosity index pair it is the heavy counterpart of the 100N-MVI, and the two can be blended to cover intermediate industrial grades. Adding Bright Stock BS-MVI takes formulations up to the heaviest gear and cylinder oils while staying in the medium index family. Applications that do involve engine-like temperature variation are better served by the 500N-HVI or 400N-HVI.

The grade is of Pakistan origin, with indicative availability of 1,000 – 4,000 MT per month. BG Petro Chemicals ships in drums, IBC tanks, flexi bags, ISO tanks or bulk and can discuss other packaging. Each lot is accompanied by a certificate of analysis, and the TDS, including full test methods, and the SDS are available on request.
