About This Product
Ethylcyclohexane (C8H16, CAS 1678-91-7) is a single naphthenic hydrocarbon, a six-carbon ring bearing an ethyl group. With a boiling point near 132 °C, higher than that of cyclohexane or methylcyclohexane, it evaporates more slowly, giving a coating longer to level or a solvent more time to penetrate. It is a colourless liquid without mechanical impurities, immiscible with water and miscible with hydrocarbons and most other organic solvents.
Production is by saturating ethylbenzene with hydrogen, and the specification checks how complete that conversion is: the product must contain 99.6 percent ethylcyclohexane or more, with no more than 0.50 percent ethylbenzene left behind. Water is limited to 0.10 percent and APHA colour to 10.
A pure, well-defined naphthene is useful in research too. Combustion laboratories use it as a component of surrogate blends that mimic jet and diesel fuel, and analysts keep it as a chromatographic reference. In industry it is a feedstock for organic synthesis and a solvent, and it is used in metal surface treatment.
BG Petro Chemicals packs ethylcyclohexane in 158 kg drums or ISO tanks. Treat it as a flammable liquid and an aspiration hazard and follow the safety data sheet; current specifications, the SDS and available batch documentation can be requested.
