About This Product
Linear alkylbenzene is an aromatic hydrocarbon in which a benzene ring carries a straight C10–C13 alkyl chain. It is a clear, bright liquid of colour 10 Hazen max, density 0.855–0.870 g/ml and refractive index 1.481–1.485 at 20 °C, with bromine index 10 mg Br/100 g max and moisture 0.02% max. By gas chromatography the C12 fraction is 20–55% and the C11 fraction 10–45%, while C14 is held to 3.0% max.
LAB is mainly sulphonated into linear alkylbenzene sulphonic acid and then neutralised to the sulphonate that serves as the core active in synthetic laundry powders and liquid detergents; a sulphonatability of 98.6% min shows how fully it converts. Smaller outlets include additives for cable, transformer and capacitor oils, modified emulsifiers and lubricants, and some solvent uses.
Agree the 2-phenyl isomer level and carbon distribution the sulphonation plant needs, since both affect the solubility and performance of the finished sulphonate. The distillation points (280 °C at 5%, 315 °C at 95%) are given as single temperatures without stated limits, so confirm how they apply. Obtain the SDS and a lot analysis certificate before the first delivery.
