About This Product
Polyethylene wax (CAS 9002-88-4) is a finely divided synthetic wax of low molecular weight, melting at about 100–130 °C. Low melt viscosity, good heat stability and ready compatibility with PVC, PE, PP and EVA let it act as both an internal and an external lubricant that reduces melt viscosity and friction, improves mould release and leaves a smooth, glossy finish that resists scratching.
In plastics and masterbatch production it makes extrusion and injection moulding run more efficiently, prevents deposits building up at the die and spreads pigments and fillers more evenly. Formulators of powder coatings, inks and hot-melt and pressure-sensitive adhesives rely on it to control melt viscosity, add cohesion and toughness and adjust open and setting times. Further outlets are bitumen and road-marking paints, wood-plastic composites, rubber and cable compounds, and compounded wax goods like crayons and polishes, lifting their hardness, softening point and resistance to water. At 1–3% in candle wax it gives a harder, glossier candle that retains fragrance and colour better.
