About This Product
Slack Wax MMO is the wax fraction crystallised from the medium machine oil distillate in lubricating oil refining, a semi-solid petroleum hydrocarbon wax registered under CAS No. 64742-61-6 with carbon numbers in the C20–C50 range. Its colour marks a clear break from the lighter grades: golden to dark amber, up to 4.5 on the ASTM D-1500 scale, because the medium machine oil cut carries more aromatic material and heavier paraffinic structures than the LMO and SPO streams. MMO melts at 58–64°C and its oil content is held at 5–15%, the narrowest oil band of the four grades. Viscosity at 100°C is 8.3–9.4 cSt, well above SPO's 4.7–5.7 cSt, which reflects its heavier molecular make-up. The retained oil is useful rather than a drawback: it brings plasticising and penetrating qualities that suit certain adhesive and emulsion formulations better than a harder, more crystalline low-oil wax. The principal outlet is as primary feedstock for emulsifying wax (E-wax), which formulators in turn use in creams, lotions and other personal care emulsions. MMO also treats heavy-duty corrugated board and fibreboard against moisture and goes into industrial adhesives and sealants, tyre and heavy rubber compounds, construction waterproofing membranes, textile finishing and coating agents, hot-melt coating and lamination, and printing ink bases. It is available in 20–22 MT flexitanks, ISO tank containers, 190 kg steel drums or bulk tanker loads.
