About This Product
Dioctyl adipate (DOA), chemically di(2-ethylhexyl) adipate or DEHA, CAS 103-23-1, is a low-viscosity, clear liquid ester produced from adipic acid and 2-ethylhexanol.
Compounders choose it when PVC must stay flexible in the cold. Phthalate and terephthalate plasticisers are built around a rigid benzene ring that restricts molecular rotation, which limits how far the polymer chains can move once the temperature falls. DOA has no ring. Its centre is a fully aliphatic six-carbon chain that stays mobile, keeping PVC supple down to about minus 40 °C, where a phthalate-plasticised compound would stiffen and crack. That is why it is the usual choice for chilled and outdoor service, including cling film for chilled food, freezer bags, cable and hose for cold climates, and automotive components exposed to winter weather. The compromise is permanence. Being smaller and more mobile than a comparable phthalate, DOA is more volatile and is extracted more easily by oils and fats, so it is often blended with other plasticisers rather than used alone.
Typical uses are low-temperature flexible PVC, cling and food wrap film, refrigeration and outdoor cable, synthetic lubricants and rubber compounding.
BG Petro Chemicals supplies DOA to an agreed specification on assay, acidity, water, colour, volatiles and specific gravity. Current specifications, safety data and available batch documentation are available on request, and pack size is confirmed at quotation.
